When people think of losing weight they don’t think of going from being overweight to a lean individual, rather they think of the number on the scale decreasing. Most diet programs are focused on either losing weight or increasing muscle mass, but there is a way to perform both at the same time — body recomposition.

Recomposition

The literary definition of recomposition is “to form something again or in a different way”. Applying that to the body allows for an individual to build muscle and lose fat at the same time, and is arguable one of the most time-efficient ways to transform your body.

How Should You Perform Body Recomposition?

In order to perform body recomposition, you will need to implement as least some type of strength training program with some form of cardio, and remember, eating fewer calories than you burn is the key for body recomposition to work.

Time-efficient

Even though you may not lose as much weight as you would if you were to only focus on weight loss because of the extra muscle mass gained, I believe it is the most time-efficient approach. Gaining more muscles allows for more calories to be burned through the cardio exercises you perform, versus if you didn’t have the extra muscle mass in the first place. It also allows for your NEAT(Non-exercise activity thermogenesis) to increase, which allows you to burn calories throughout the day.

Conclusion

Body recomposition is the ability to reduce fat while increasing muscle mass simultaneously through implementing both endurance and strength-based training within your routine. It is arguably one of the best approaches to changing your body, due to including both strength and endurance training to burn fat and build muscle.
